Farmashop has been awarded the National Prize for Energy Efficiency granted by the Uruguayan Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining. The company has implemented several changes over the past few years that have been positively recognized by the company’s industry and country. Seeking to minimize its energy consumption and carbon footprint, Farmashop has replaced its delivery motorcycles with electric and hybrid bicycles, and has introduced hybrid vehicles for workers and a 100% electric van for the technology team, saving over 15 tons of oil equivalent per year (TOE/year). Farmashop stores’ infrastructure includes LED lighting, efficient air conditioning, and movement sensors, saving an additional 110 TOE/year. Lastly, Farmashop installed solar panels in two distribution centers, generating ~75% of the energy used in those facilities and saving more than 30 TOE/year. With the energy efficiency measures mentioned above, Farmashop has saved more than 150 TOE/year.
